The new Frostbite 2.0 engine will be DirectX 10 and 11 exclusive, no DX9 path will be supported.
A DICE developer Johan Andersson has tweeted: 'Frostbite 2 is primarily developed for DX11. XP & DX9 is _not_ supported, 64-bit OS is recommended. Lots of time to upgrade if you havent!' Oh well. Windows XP is almost ten years old now, expect this more and more.
This is AWESOME news. I wish someone would take it further and wave a magic wand and say "for now on, all PC games have to use DX10 or DX11(or open GL =) and 64bit OS.
I feel like this is the year that we are gona see massive PC gaming progression, I hope I am right.
Do you guys think its time to dump DX9 and 32bit OS or is there tones of juice left in DX9 and really most engine devs are just lazy or constrained by consoles?
