Looks like I'll be buying the ancient Nexus One instead, then. Hopefully it will have 2.2 pre-installed.

There are three (possible) major flaws with the EVO that lead to battery drain:
1) If you're logged into flickr, there's a bug that causes the calendar to constantly try to sync. Why? Who knows! Log the fuck out of flickr!
2) If you enable geotagging on the camera, it will grab the GPS and never, ever let go. Why? Who knows! Reboot the fuck out of the camera and turn that shit off.
3) Some people claim that the phone is attempting to grab a GSM tower, which it can't because Sprint is CDMA. Enter *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer. Do not press call, wait for the debug menu to pop up. Go to phone info and change Preferred Network Type to CDMA auto (PRL).
Before I did these things, I got ~8 hours of battery life with normal use. Today it's pushing 11 hours and I'm at 65% battery remaining.
Are these stupid bugs that should not exist? Certainly. Are they fixable until an OTA update? Yes.
