Looks like I'll be buying the ancient Nexus One instead, then. Hopefully it will have 2.2 pre-installed.

-turn screen brightness down at work (because the screen is the biggest user of battery and I can see the screen fine here at work)
-turn off wi-fi at Work or any other location where I wont be using it
-turn off bluetooth in all locations except Default (which turns bluetooth on when I'm in my car away from any of my defined locations)
-turn off everything at night (and turn down all the volumes to one notch above minimum)
Other things I've noticed:
-when you first get a phone like that... you play with it a lot and the battery goes down quickly, give it two weeks and you settle into a normal usage pattern... it gets better
-widgets which are constantly checking for updates chew up battery life, I try to keep them to a minimum and set the refresh rates to as infrequently as possible
I can easily get through a full day of normal use with the Droid.. usually by 10am when I put my phone in my dock at work.. I still have at least 50% charge left from the previous day and night.
