How's everyone doing? Get some games in this weekend? Any cool VODs/Replays?
I will post my copper league thoughts in reply...

- Scan costs the same energy as a MULE, and as such will cost you 240 minerals potentially lost. Consider building an extra barracks and floating it into your opponents base as it will give you better information instead.
I would highly recommend just scanning at first. Yes, you're losing out on some number of minerals (iirc, the 240 number is if the mule is to the closest mineral patch to the base, and maybe even high-yield as well), but you'll lose the game if the other player catches you off guard. Right now entirely too many terran players are sacrificing scouting information for the hypothetical 300 minerals, and losing due to unseen tech (usually DTs, mutas, or banshees).
Scanning is easy, and gets you in the habit of monitoring your opponent. I'd suggest working on transitioning to another, more efficient, scanning method later on.
- Leaving a worker outside of your opponent's ramp but also outside of his vision is a great warning for when he is moving out. It gives you ample time to pump out one last round of units before the attack comes.
Beyond that, dropping a worker (or zergling) at the back of every expansion point on the map gives a good indicator on if/when your opponent is looking to expand. There are other things zerg can do to make this obnoxious (ex: having an overlord shit on expansion points to delay the building), but having a basic unit sitting there for intel goes a long way. More than tech, you should always know when your opponent is looking to expand.
- Building depots / pylons around the outside of your base will give you early warning of reapers, void rays, medivacs, mutalisks and nydus worms coming into your base. Again, don't be worried about losing them.
This also helps you learn the maps. Most maps have obvious nydus points, back doors, and proxy points. Dropping a building in these locations is a good way of having some warning of an attack/harass, allowing you to better save your shit.
