15 hours in and so far I'm loving it.

I know I'm early, but out of the characters I've used so far Lightning, Snow, Vanille under player control, Sahz, Hope, and Snow's entourage as NPCs) they all play pretty much exactly the same - they (aside from Vanille) have a multi-use single-target attack, or a single-use multi-target attack per turn. No casters, no special moves (unless you count the multi-target attacks as "special" - but those all work pretty much the same, hitting a general area around the target)
At least Cloud started with a couple spells to use, to mix things up a bit.
Positioning, it seems, is fairly important wrt area-effect attacks, but there's no real way to control the position of your party. This hasn't been an issue yet, but I'd imagine if bosses start lobbing AoE, there will be a bit of luck involved in getting party members properly spread out.
Party members using my (start-of-game-limited-supply) potions when someone has taken a single hit and is at 90% health is a bit disconcerting. This probably won't be a huge deal once the money starts rolling in, and we have a larger supply of items - but I fear later in the game they'll choose to use one of those rare limited items (megalixirs and such) in the same situation. I generally try to save those for the final boss rush - having the AI use up my stock on minor injuries isn't going to make me happy.
Plotwise, I'm doing a lot of hoping that things get explained later. My biggest gripe is that important terms that the characters are obviously extremely familiar with haven't been explained to the player at all (yet). There's a bit of spoilage in the intro movie too - since it uses FMV from (what I'm presuming is) later in the game. Minor quibble, that.
Playing on the PS3 - the game looks and sounds incredible - but I've come to expect that from FF games (and Square in general). Haven't noticed any slowdown yet at any point - but then again, I'm so early on that none of the more impressive effects have been used yet.
