Small Speakers - Seems to quiet and shrink the sounds and their placement for better reproduction on a pair of crappy PC speakers.
HiFi (Default) - Of course the sound in this game is awesome on any setting, but if you have decent speakers you will hear the clipping on all the loud sounds (clipping sounds sort of like flat static) because the sounds have been pushed up beyond their recorded fidelity to make them "louder" like bad rock albums in the late 90s / early 2000s.
Headphones - Haven't tested this as I don't use headphones.
Home Cinema - My favorite setting - this enhances the fidelity and removes the clipping, making it indeed cinematic. You can crank it up a bit more and everything sounds fresh and clean. If you're running 5.1 or a nice set of speakers, this is the setting to use.
WarTapes - This seems to be the same as HiFi, except the sounds are pushed to 11 so you can literally shake your room if you have a sound system and bonus extra cursing is thrown in. It's sort of like being inside an episode of Generation Kill and your teammate is Dick Marcinko and he's only there to add color commentary, which consists entirely of extra expletives dropped into existing teammate phrases. If the clipping doesn't bother you, you'll probably like this setting.
