I'm finding myself perhaps a little more critical of Rage though. It felt like a mish-mash of sorts that includes gameplay elements that I personally have zero interest in. They are really forcing the car racing/combat on you in this game. You have to drive to get anywhere, they promised us that there would be no teleport mechanic of any sort. Their aim is to make sure the Wasteland is entertaining, but I was tired of it before the demonstration was even over. They did a race, and frankly, Mario Kart has more depth as a "combat racer" than what we saw.
It wasn't all bad though. I liked the stuff you could engineer, like the self-motivated spider drones and the stationary turrets that you can drop. It remains to be seen if the crafting is tedious to get this stuff. The game certainly looks good from a graphical perspective, and the Super Smash TV'ish mode was alright (even if the enemy AI seemed poor... you have to remember this is pre-alpha.)
Brink, on the other hand, matches innovation (SMART tech) with an incredible focus on letting the player do things their way via the character classes and other customizations, both visual and functional. It looked FUN. This is going to be a launch day title for me.
