I mean a WIDE OPEN skill system, more similar to Guild Wars where you have a huge amount of skills but can only select a handful of them. The only permanent skills would be your weapon choices/masteries. You could take Bow, Sword, and Axe and that would be it for the game. Then you can choose alllll sorts of skills. You'll get weapon skills independent of your other skills (multiple shot for the bow, some attack for the sword, whirlwind for the axe) as you level. Then you could choose all sorts of stuff like traps, some magic skills/elemental skills, etc.
One thing I really want to see in D3 is a return to the system where all classes can use magic, some can just use more than others. Sorcerer gets other innate abilities that make her the best spellcaster, Necromancer pets are not spells at all but made from the corpses around him, perhaps even a persistent pet that levels with you. Or at least the return of scrolls.
