Personally, I'd have to say on the Apple IIe, playing Sun Tzu's Ancient Art of War. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, but I did realize moving around little pixel dudes on a map to shoot and stab other little pixel dudes was a massively fascinating exercise and that I wanted more. Games, not exercise.

I can say without a doubt that Thief: The Dark Project is not only my favorite game of all time, but the reason I started writing about games four years ago. I may have played and thoroughly enjoyed many games before it, but Thief brought about emotions for me that I had never experienced with any game before. It showed me everything that gaming could be: engaging and provocative, and I decided then and there that I wanted to be part of an industry that could create such an experience. Again, it’s the reason I became a game journalist and the reason why I someday hope to develop.
