Personally, I'd have to say on the Apple IIe, playing Sun Tzu's Ancient Art of War. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing, but I did realize moving around little pixel dudes on a map to shoot and stab other little pixel dudes was a massively fascinating exercise and that I wanted more. Games, not exercise.

After that I guess I got sucked into a ton of early FPS games. Wold 3d. Blakestone, and that kinda stuff.
Basically I figured out that I loved games from the first moment I pushed an arrow key and my little avatar moved the same direction. "holy fuck, I just made him do what I pushed!" If only I could get that same feeling of amazement out of stuff these days.
