I just got a PS3 yesterday, and the only reason I got it was because my PS2 broke. So, to say I was unenthused about my purchase would be an understatement; however, having messed around with it some now, it's clear that it's very underrated on the internets. I don't think it will be for long. First gen graphics top second gen 360 graphics (handily IMO). Motorstorm is a high water mark - it looks beautiful, runs fast, can show off 20 highly detailed cars kicking up amazing particle effects, using deep physics, real time terrain deformation, realistic crash physics with individual parts peeling off of cars and being scattered around the track - there's just a ton of shit going on. Aesthetics are one thing, but this is just an incredible display of power. There's not even really a comparison between it and PGR 3 or what we've seen of Forza.
Further, given the complexity of the cell processor you have to assume that things are only going to continue to improve throughout it's lifetime. Looking at stuff like the new trailer for the next Ratchet game only supports this notion.
Oh yeah, and support Mouse + Keyboard.
I'm not posting this to suggest everyone run out and buy one, or to justify my purchase. I'd advise the opposite - it's too expensive and there aren't enough games right now; but a lot of people just seem to be writing it off already, and I think in a years time they are going to be eating their words.

Both are cars, just as both are consoles. They both are drivable on roads, as both consoles play PS2 games. The 7 Series has tons of features that the Mazda 3 doesn't, just as the PS3 does tons of things that the PS2 doesn't. The 7 Series is really expensive for a car compared to a Mazda 3 even though they are both just cars that you drive. The PS3 is really expensive for a console compared to a PS2 though they are both just consoles on which you can play PS2 games. If the guy wanted to play PS2 games he should've just fixed his PS2 or bought a new one. He wanted a PS3 and the PS2 dieing had nothing to do with it. It was just his excuse to justify spending 600+ dollars on a console. I personally think it's really silly to do that. It's just my opinion. I'm gonna wait a few years until the PS3s are like $100 and then MAYBE I'll think about getting one.
