Kakao Games will be offering a free seven-day trial for their MMO Black Desert Online from now until January 4. If you sign up anytime between now and January 4 you'll get unfettered access to the game for a full week with no content locks or character losses after the trial.

If after the trial you decide to pick up the game, all Black Desert Online packages are on sale for 50% off until January 4. Also, if you purchase the Explorer's Package, you'll unlock the Noel Costume Set which contains a special holiday outfit.

If you already own Black Desert Online and are looking for the Noel Costume Set, you can purchase it from the Pearl Shop. You can also receive the Noel Costume set by referring friends to Black Desert Online.

Black Desert Online is worth a try if you're looking for a game with more active combat than World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV. It has a fascinating world, and there's a lot of interesting systems in place you can't find in any other MMO. It also follows the "buy-once-play-forever" model that The Elder Scrolls Online uses, and the in-game cash shop isn't too obnoxious.

      Any Shackers playing this?

Or, are we talking ESO level crickets?

I'm playing ESO again at the moment and kinda getting into it. I did a Dark Brotherhood mission last night, and that shit was pretty goddamn cool. And now I've got a cool instakill ability I can use from stealth.

What's the min level for DB? I was tempted to grab the 4 pack last week, not that I have the money to spare, but figured there was enough in the base game to keep me busy for a good while w/o shelling out more money. Though I bit a tempted to get a mount or bag space. I guess I have 500 crown for being the beta or something. Or, do you just start with that for having an account?

I don't think it has a minimum level. Nothing does anymore, other than dungeons and Cyrodiil.

I think they gave out the 500 crowns to everyone at some point. I've got a ton and have never really figured out what to spend them on.

I wondered if that would happen with like the subscription. You get to a point that unless you're buying the consumable stuff that there was only so much you'd be interested in.

Yeah, especially since the crafting bag is a sub-only feature. Originally, I figured I'd spend my crowns on owning the DLC so I could play everything even when I don't feel like subscribing. But that crafting bag is just too useful for me to enjoy playing without it. I wish you could unlock it permanently.

And I don't care nearly enough about pets, mounts, and clothing items to buy those.

That bag is what's taunting me to sub. That's just ridiculously useful.

ESO is fucking fantastic now, not sure what you mean by that. This game, this game looks great but is a huge piece of shit. The mobs literally have almost no AI and just stand in circles until you run up and hit them. Of all the MMO's I played, this one has the *least& gameplay, it's absolutely terrible. And beautiful.

I asked if anyone was still playing ESO last week and got min response. A few said the played it a bit but stopped. That's what I was referring to.

Least gameplay, eh? Well, I guess they're relying on the "active combat" aspect more than anything else?

It has "active" combat but nothing else. It's just a monster bash simulator IMHO.

Hmm. That might have a mindless cathartic quality to it. Unless it just sucks, then I won't bother.

It was fun for about 3 hours and that was it. But try it, you have nothing to lose.

Tried a couple of times now and I just can't get into it. I'm not a huge fan of ESO, but I would much rather play that game.

I own it, I've tried to play it a few times but it's just not very good. ESO is much much better.
