Nintendo and Tecmo Koei continue to make a strong push for the upcoming action-fest Hyrule Warriors. One of the longest trailers to date has been released, recapping the game's playable characters and offering a look at some of the game's features.

Many of the previously-revealed Hyrule Warriors characters were on display, including Link, Zelda, Impa, Midna, and the newcomer Lana. Other newer characters were also revealed, such as Zelda's alter ego Sheik, the Goron Fire Sage Darunia, and the Zora Water Sage Ruto. There are also some other features shown off, like local co-op through the Wii U GamePad and a retro mini-game based on the original Legend of Zelda.

Watching the trailer, it's hard to shake the sense that this really just feels like a Dynasty Warriors game with a Zelda coat of paint slapped over it, but maybe that's a harsh assessment. Give the trailer below a look and judge for yourself.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Honest question: Is anyone actually excited about this game?

I'm a card carrying Wii U fan and I'll be the first in line for that open world Zelda next year, but I can't figure out whether or not this looks like fun...

It seems like a poor choice for Nintendo. People know what to expect from a Zelda game and I'm imagining a lot of people being let down by "that new zelda game"

Ah, but that's why you don't see "The Legend of Zelda" in the title.

I'm excited as fuck, and will probably play this more than any other wii u game I have so far.

And I've played my wii u a ton.

Hack and slashes like this are the big kid party/casual games, and I love them.

I'm in that exact same boat. I'm really unsure of this one.

I'm stoked. Zelda is my favorite game series, but it requires you to play so conservatively. And that's fine. That works for the Zelda formula. But Link's arsenal is so iconic. I've always wanted to cut loose with bombs, fire rods, and the Master Sword. Hyrule Warriors will let me do that. It will be a fun diversion, a game I'll play for 20 minutes here and there when I need to turn off my brain or blow off steam. Better yet, it's got multiplayer, so my wife can play with me.

I'm not, but I'd give it a shot of the reviews were solid.

I can't wait for it. I was skeptical at first, but seeing in on the E3 Treehouse video turned me into a believer.

The Dynasty Warriors series is so fucking terrible, I don't know how some Nintendo characters will change that.

I don't play the Dynasty Warriors series enough to burn out on them like a lot of people, but I still very much enjoy playing the ones that I do play. So I'm in a happy middle ground where I can enjoy all of the good aspects of the Dynasty Warriors series without the franchise fatigue. The fact that it's Zelda only makes me even more excited!

I am incredibly excited for this. It is Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin. It's not lying to you or promising to be something else. If you want to turn your brain off and go ham on some moblins then look no further.

Plus ever since I was a wee lad I always wanted to play as Darunia and crush some skulls.

*Sniff* sometimes dreams do come true.
