Hatsune Miku to join Lady Gaga concerts

Popular Japanese vocaloid mascot Hatsune Miku is joining Lady Gaga to open her ARTPOP Ball concerts. For the unfamiliar, she’s a singing synthesizer that's represented as a 16 year old girl with turquoise hair. Sega publishes numerous games starring her and other vocaloids.

The Escapist has a list of dates if you're interested in seeing the virtual pop star perform. She'll be hitting cities like Atlanta, New York, and San Diego. Here's what one of her holographic performances looked like:

It sure does. Two performers with no substance working together.

I don't know about that. Every time I see something about a Vocaloid song pop up on TVTropes.com or some other internet bullshit site I go to that's better than this one, it makes the whole Vocaloid universe seem like this vast Homerian epic that I just don't have the ability to comprehend.

Then I watch a video of the music and all I see is anime bullshit and intensifying disappointment in my father's eyes.

Yep, pretty much. It's pandering bullshit to the otaku crowd which is destroying creativity in Japanese entertainment. Everything MUST contain a stereotype cute girl for virgins to imagine themselves with before it can contain substance, so oftentimes it won't.

This almost sounds like western entertainment, but I assure you that this idea is far more pervasive in Japan.

I was more making a joke about Lady Gaga than anything else. See, Hatsune Miku is not a real person. She has no physical substance. My comment was intended to deride the meaning of Lady Gaga's music as equally insubstantial. Just a little clarification.
