How does one make a movie about Gran Turismo? By making a movie about the real-life story of Lucas Ordonez, the avid Gran Turismo fan that grew up to become a professional racer.
Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi spoke to Destructoid about the adaptation and said that filmmakers Mike de Luca and Dana Brunetti won the developer over with Ordonez's story of growth and maturity. Yamauchi particularly hopes to see the tale of a mother watching her son go from a video game player to a professional racer.
Ordonez originally got into the racing scene through the GT Academy series, a competition designed to find the world's best GT5: Prologue player and convert him into a real racer. He beat out 25,000 other competitors to take the podium. He remains active today, recently announcing his 2013 plans to compete in the FIA GT Series and Blancpain Endurance Series in his Nismo GT-R GT3 RJN Motorsport car.
