Double Fine still wants the distribution rights for Stacking and Costume Quest, according to CEO Tim Schafer. Not only that, but he says Double Fine is actively trying to get the rights to other Double Fine games as well.
"We're still trying to get the rights to Costume Quest and Stacking," Schafer told Game Informer at the Two5Six conference. "We can still make more of those games. We still have the IP, but we'd love to have all of the IP and distribution rights in house. We're trying to get the Brutal Legend IP from EA, and we're interested in Iron Brigade coming back in [from Microsoft]."
Schafer didn't detail how they might obtain those rights, but it does make sense. We heard that Double Fine was interested in assets back when THQ's properties first went on the auction block. Stacking and Costume Quest ultimately went to Nordic Games Publishing.
