The promised trailer confirming Spies vs. Mercs mode for Splinter Cell Blacklist has been released, showing off 4v4 gameplay, a first for the mode.

The video (via IGN) shows spies hacking data and mercs trying to protect the data from getting into the wrong hands. The Spies will rely on their stealth and ability to strike from the shadows, while the mercs will be heavily armored and with flashlights. Each side will also have an array of useful gadgets at their disposal.

The mode was 2v2 in previous Splinter Cell games, such as Pandora Tomorrow, Chaos Theory, and Double Agent, but was missing entirely from Conviction.

The game is set to release August 20 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U.

I played the shit out of it in Pandora. So awesome. Everyone wanted to be spies tho :(
I hope they make Mercs a fun alternative.

The more I look at that cover the more it looks like that scene from Spiderman...

I was always bummed at the 2v2 or in Conviction the 2 only. Really hurts when you have 4-6 guys wanting to game together regularly. Glad to see 4 v 4

      nostalgiaaaaa

I still feel Chaos Theory was the best Splinter Cell ever. I lost many hours of my youth to Spies vs Mercs with my buddies. Happy to see it back and bigger than ever.

I hope this is good. That trailer didn't exactly remind me of the awesomeness of the older modes. It was always so tense.

I cannot wait for this to come out! I only hope the console community has matured enough to play this. When it came out last time people couldn't grasp it and stopped playing it.
