Rumor: New Strider game coming to Steam, XBLA

An XBLA leak and Steam Achievement indicate a new Strider game coming soon, and it may be one of the games Capcom unveils this weekend at PAX East.

It appears Capcom is preparing to reveal a new Strider game. A leaked banner and achievement indicate the title, simply called "Strider," is coming to both Steam and Xbox Live Arcade. It may be shown as early as this weekend, during PAX East.

The banner for the game was uncovered on NeoGAF (via Eurogamer), matching the dimensions of XBLA games. Meanwhile, a Steam Achievement appears to point towards it releasing on PC as well. None of the leaks have indicated a PlayStation 3 version, but we would expect it to land there as well.

Capcom has been teasing that it will show two new games at PAX East this weekend. A Dungeons & Dragons compilation was recently revealed and reportedly will be shown at the convention. Strider may just be the second game Capcom has on-tap for the show.

The arcade game made a huge impression on me as a kid. A fucking cyber-punk ninja running around and slashing things up was just not something my brain could have invented on its own.

That and the sprite animation is phenomenal even to today's standards.

There was a university a 2 minute walk from my high school and their rec area had an arcade, with maybe 6 or 8 games there. As a policy the high school 'forbid' us to go there but my friend and I snuck in almost every lunch period and after school.

The games we played all the time were 1942, 720, Altered Beast, and Strider. I remember finally beating the whole game (we took turns feeding quarters) it is probably one of only a dozen or so arcade games I've finished and it was really gratifying.

renting the NES version was a SERIOUS bummer

Compared to the NES stuff we were all playing at the time, it was godly

Admittedly Front Mission Evolved could had been much better. Lots of good ideas but overall the game needed a lot of wrinkles ironed.

Silent Hill Homecoming wasn't terrible and their licensed games for Green Lantern and GI Joe could have been worse. They're bad but not as bad as most licensed games.

MX vs ATV was quite good from what I have heard.

        They aren't TOTALLY hopeless.

Why was Strider 2 for PSX such an obscure title?
      That game was flippin' amazing!

I remember seeing Strider for the first time in the arcade at the pizza place. I just stared at it for 30 minutes I think.

Unfortunately Strider is an underutilized series by Capcom.

Officially there are only 2 Strider games. The original early 90's arcade which had a primary Genesis port (although many PC ports.) and 10 years later Strider 2 which had a PSX port which was criminally underexposed.

Strider 1 is classic. Strider 2 is fun as hell but easy as fuck. The inclusion of a ridiculously high jump and a double jump to boot just made level rushing too easy. Still fun.

NES strider was more of an adventure/action game. I liked it but it was really different then the arcade. Arcade was a side scroller action game, one of the firsts that let you climb on walls and animations for climbing slopes, or running super fast downhill, that kind of thing.
