Next Assassin's Creed to feature new hero in new time, coming fiscal 2014
by Andrew Yoon, Feb 07, 2013 10:05am PSTSay goodbye to Connor. Say farewell to America. The next Assassin's Creed won't follow the model established by AC2. Instead of having a spin-off game continuing Connor's story, Ubisoft's next Assassin's Creed game will actually take place in an all new time period with a brand new hero.
During Ubisoft's quarterly earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said: "We are delighted and proud to announce today that in financial year 14, we will introduce an all-new Assassin's Creed hero." According to Polygon, the game will be created by "an all new team" and will represent "another major leap forward for the franchise."
Explaining how yet another major addition to the franchise could come so soon after the release of Assassin's Creed 3, Guillemot said: "It is the benefit of multiple teams working on multiple chapters of the product, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin's Creed game."
It's no surprise that Ubisoft would fast-track a new Assassin's Creed game, given that last year's game has already sold over 12 million copies. Ubisoft's fiscal 2014 takes place between April 2013-March 2014, meaning the next Assassin's Creed title could be out in time for the holiday season--and likely, next-gen consoles.
