by Andrew Yoon, Oct 04, 2012 4:00pm PDTIt may not be the most well-liked Resident Evil game ever, but it certainly will be one of the most plentiful. Capcom has shipped 4.5 million copies of Resident Evil 6 to retailers, backed by a "strong worldwide response" from fans. In fact, this initial shipment is the "highest ever" for a Capcom game, proving that Metacritic scores ultimately don't matter when franchises get big enough.
The Resident Evil franchise has now sold over 50 million units since the original game released in 1996, according to Capcom. They claim that "Resident Evil is just as popular today as it was 15 years ago." Guess making all those "mass-market" adjustments helped their bottom line.
