Battlefield 3 PS3 now getting free BF1943

PlayStation 3 owners of Battlefield 3 will indeed receive a voucher for a free download of Battlefield 1943 after all, EA has revealed. Fans were unsurprisingly upset when EA silently replaced the freebie, and one law firm filed a class action lawsuit.

"There have been some misunderstandings around Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield 3," explains an EA support page. "To address this we are making Battlefield 1943 available free of charge to owners of Battlefield 3 on the PS3 beginning this month."

The key "misunderstanding" was EA and Sony deciding to offer one week's early DLC access on PlayStation 3 in place of the free Battlefield 1943, and neglecting to tell anyone of this switcheroo until after BF3 launched. Of course, the carefully-worded statement takes no responsibility for any "misunderstandings."

European, Aussie, and Kiwi users can already get their free code, as of Saturday, while North American PSN members will need to wait until December 10. It'll land in Japan on December 17.
