Resident Evil 4, Code Veronica X HD revamps confirmed for fall

Downloadable HD revamps of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X are headed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this fall.

Vintage scare-o-ramas Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X are indeed being revamped for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as had been rumoured, Capcom formally announced today.

Capcom says that the survival horrors have been "enhanced with upgraded visuals" and offers some dubious "comparison shots" of Resident Evil 4 as proof. Our mind's eye might be impeded by the haze of memory and nostalgia, but we're not certain it ever looked quite so blurry.

While the rumours suggested they'd be released as a retail bundle in Japan, they will in fact be downloadable titles for us Westerners.

The tarted-up Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X are scheduled for release via Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this fall. Pricing has yet to be announced.

excellent excuse to replay RE4. one of the best games ever made.

I think Capcom may have modified the original pictures, just a tiny, tiny bit.

Anyway I wish they would enhance Resident Evil 1 & 2. Those games are also fantastic. I remember playing the RE1 remake on Gamecube and that was easily the scariest out of all the resident evils I played.

well, if they took screens of the original PS2 port (which looked A LOT blurrier than the original GCN version) and then blew that up to 720p or 1080p to match the newly upscaled version's screenshot, then yea, I can see how it could look THAT blurry.

However, the 480p Wii Version doesn't look nearly as bad.

PC pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase. RE4 PC was terrible, I tried RE4 Wii w/ Dolphin emulator and the control was also not great.

Yeah, they really need to redeem themselves for that port. One of the worst ever.

Maybe I'll give that a shot. I was using mouse hoping for more of a KB+M type feel, but it was a miserable failure.

If sharper graphics (and probably achievements) are all the HD editions are offering, I think I'll stick with RE4 Wii Edition, but I'll definitely buy CVX. I have the game for PS2, but PS2 games look awful on my HDTV. Plus I believe I lost the memory card on which I saved my CVX data, so I'm due for a replay.

I'll guess no, but we'll get the exclusive online-only DRM in exchange!

My guess is that the games will be ported and character models and textures will remain the same but will look better just because it's running at a higher resolution on newer hardware. As long as they tweak it to not look like crap I might bite.

It looks like the PC version! And now the graphics are all bight and it looses its atmosphere.

Code Veronica needs some serious tweakin'. Add in the features from RE3 that didn't make it into CV (since they had overlapping dev times and were from different companies) like being able to run up and down stairs, damn it! Don't pull a Sega (with their inability to fix the slightest thing in Sonic Adventure).

The difficulty balancing needs seriously tweaked, too. Code Veronica is an annoying fucking game to play. :(

Finally. Playing RE4 on the Wii controller makes me want to kill myself. I've picked it up and quit three times now because I despise the controls.

i thought RE4 was the ONLY game made slightly better with wii controls. Every other game is made worse by them and i refuse to buy them, but using the wiimote to aim while standing still felt much more natural and accurate.

RE4 was improved a lot with the Wii version. I was averaging between 75-85% accuracy on average with the Gamecube version and with the Wii I never go under 90% on any level.

Aiming with both the Wiimote and analog stick on the nunchuk feels like I'm trying to pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time. I guess it's just me, but I had a really hard time getting used to it.
