Evening Reading
by Brian Leahy, Aug 23, 2010 5:00pm PDTOver the weekend, I posted that I had "cheesed" my first opponent in StarCraft II. I had been on a losing streak and needed a win for my precious self-esteem. I had been the victim of the very build I used a week earlier and put it into action against an unsuspecting opponent. It felt dirty... but glorious at the same time.
Is this a slippery slope I find myself on? You can grab the replay here.
I'm off tomorrow and Wednesday on assignment, while Alice is on holiday. Be nice to Xav!

Basically, is there a way to balance for low level players that doesn't damage high level play?
Honestly, some of the counters in the game can be complex to the point of being arcane. If you aren't experienced or smart or clever enough to think up or plan ahead for a counter to a problem at the low level, of course you're going to complain there's a balance issue because in all likelihood, for your level of play, there very well may be.
I think it's probably a "problem" without a solution, other than "step up your game, bro", but that doesn't help those people have more fun with the game in the short term. So how do you make everyone happy? And if you can't who's more important to please?
