Morning Discussion
by Xav de Matos, Aug 16, 2010 5:00am PDTWhile I was spending some time in New York, I ended up watching Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and really enjoyed it. To be honest, I've only read the first three trades but from what I could gather from fans and Twitter, the movie was pretty faithful to the source material.
Stuff gets cut for time, which sucks, but at least we have "Special Features" to see what was left on the cutting room floor.
As a Torontonian, it was a lot of fun to see some of the random spots from around the city I was born and raised in popping up on the big screen. Before Scott's film debut, the last movie to feature Toronto (and not pretend it was a different location) was The Love Guru. We've traded up. Substantially.

In retrospect newer games such as the half life series and others have completely improved on single player and multiplayer experiences obviously but in terms of mind blowing FPS gaming community changes I can't say that anything hit as hard as Quake II did.

I have a new mix up here: http://fairtilizer.com/track/142141
There's lots of heavy percussive tracks, lots of melody. Easy on the noisy DnB-wannabe stuff. Let me know what you think.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/08/16/geek-deal-get-two-bonus-tracks-from-the-inception-score/
This deal comes courtesy of the fine folks over at Nolan Fans. To get the tracks, go to inceptionscore.com and submit your e-mail address. After that, you’ll be given a link to download the two new tracks, “Projection,†and “Don’t Think About Elephants.†For the anal retentive among you (i.e. people like me), the tracks are even numbered 13 and 14, so you can easily slide them into your Inception soundtrack folder. I’ve listened to the tracks and there’s not that much new here (mostly just variations on themes and motifs heard in all the other tracks) but you really can’t beat the price.

For example, I do not see myself buying an eBook reader, ever. I'm not saying I'll never wind up buying one, or something that could be used as one (i.e., iPad) but all I can think of when I see the Kindle commercial where they're on the beach is that they're out $130+ if they get sand in that thing but a $5.99 paperback isn't ruined in the same situation. Also, I like having bookshelves full of books.
I call it the Macintosh, never the Mac. I've still yet to figure out exactly when and why Apple themselves stopped calling it the Macintosh. I was surprised when I figured out that they weren't using "Mac" shorthand and that was literally the name now.
Wireless is for suckers. Obviously certain concepts require wireless technologies (cell phones, bluetooth peripherals) but wireless Internet is not something to be taken seriously and wireless mice and keyboards are just trading one problem (wires) for others (battery life, connection issues, input lag).
I still call GameStop "Babbage's" because I liked the Babbage's stores so much better. Back when the PC commanded half the store, when a punchy underdog console like the Atari Jaguar had a chance and some shelf space, and when they would sell shit like Windows NT and C++ compilers and shit. Nowadays it's like a nightclub for kids with ADD.
My computer still has a floppy disk drive. Actually, I'm not sure but I think it has the same floppy disk drive from 1999 when I built my first PC. When they stop putting the connectors on the motherboards I'll stop using it but until then I'm keeping it around for shits.

I'm trying to get my dad into a video game to play as a hobby. He's a Star Trek nerd, so I was thinking Star Trek online? Not being an MMO fan myself is this game still going strong and worth getting into for him? Or should I look more into Eve online?

I don't know if everyone just got awesome over the past 24 hours or if I just started sucking but every game I played yesterday, I got fucking melted. I completely take back any complains I had about Support's... they seem pretty well balanced. Gunners on the other hand are goddamn wrecking balls of wrecking. It only seems to take one deployed Gunner to easily mow down a Tank with a Support healing him. I definitely don't have the same level of confidence in the Tank/Support combo as I do with the Heavy/Medic combo in TF2.

We are changing the oil in my Ford Escape 2010 for the first time ever (it is our first time ever changing oil in any car as well).
I was looking at the leather protector sprays at AutoZone while Ratalon was figuring out the oil stuff and I wondered what is the best thing to keep the seats from cracking and staying soft?
Also, any tips on changing the oil for newbs?
