Weekend Discussion
by Xav de Matos, Jul 31, 2010 8:00am PDTAs you probably already guessed, we're all playing StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Can you blame us? We have been waiting for it for quite some time, you know.
If you're craving some more in-depth StarCraft 2 content, make sure to check out the number of articles Brian has posted.
Also, let's face it, playing games inside is a great way to beat the summer heat! What are you playing this weekend?
- Alice O'Connor: StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty; Natural Selection 2. Okay bye.
- Brian Leahy: I'll be playing StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty and some fighting games with Shackers. Then more StarCraft 2!
- Garnett Lee: My weekend will be filled alternating between Civilization V and Madden 11, both of which I'll have impressions of next week. And I'll probably sneak in some StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty as well.
- Jeff Mattas: StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. I still have to pick up a copy, but all the hype has officially killed my willpower.
- Xav de Matos: I hate to sound like a broken record here but I'm playing me some StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, folks. Also, I'm going to try to get a few Alien Swarm games in and finish the, surprisingly good, Singularity single-player campaign.

MULTIPLAYER HITS TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY
http://notch.tumblr.com/post/883733186/fyi-my-schedule-for-the-next-month
"Next week:
Tuesday or Wednesday: A first, very rough, version of Survival Multiplayer"
Why This is a Big Deal:
If you’ve bought the game:
IT IS MULTIPLAYER AND IT IS HAPPENING OH HOLY SHIT
If you haven’t bought the game:
The release of Multiplayer marks the end of Alpha, which currently has the game discounted to 9.95 euros. When Beta hits, the game will go up in cost to about 15 euros, so if you’re on the fence about buying it, you may want to PULL THE TRIGGER before the end of the weekend!

That's why I'm letting you know, my friends, that the trailer for my first film is complete. It is a documentary about mountain bike trail building and the environmentalists that oppose to their lifestyle. The film is called The Woods Belong To Us
I know some of you are mountain bikers here, and while I'm not one myself I found the story of my friend (a trail builder) interesting enough to document. I also found one of the greatest forum trolls ever, and his name is Michal J Vandeman. He hates mountain biking because according to him it destroys the environment, and wants to do whatever it takes to make his message heard. In my film he appears on camera for the first time and some interesting things happen...
Please check it out and let me know what you think. It's a low budget affair, so be gentle.

*maybe. provided all the captains show up.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN: We still have a need for TWO captains, one in the East and one in the West. IF no one steps up to captain these teams, I will draft the East Coast team and someone from the East will draft the West Coast Team. I hope it doesnt go down like that! Basically the captain is responsible for picking the team and any communications - its pretty easy!

Neither of the waterfalls were there when I started my castle. Luckily I located a stream at the top of the mountain and I tunneled the water through the mountain to a nice effect.

I'm moving to the north bay in a few months. Job is in Novato, planning to secure housing in one of the following: Petaluma, Novato, San Rafael or small-ish surrounding towns. Office hours start at 10am and expect to be driving home around 6:30/7pm-ish.
With that in mind, I have two questions:
1. How bad is the traffic really between Petaluma -> Novato (arriving for 10 am) in the morning, Novato -> Petaluma in the pm? (10 miles on the 101S, how long will it really take?)
2. How much easier is the commute from San Rafael to Novato to make it to the office at 10am and in the opposite direction back south to San Rafael (or nearby area)? (6 miles on the 101N, how long will it really take?)

I had never seen Kubrick's 1980 The Shining, which by and large is a pretty good film.
But I, my friends, started sober and ended rip-roaring drunk on a slow-paced tour through hell. Fuck, i am terrified beyond words right now. And I am convinced, with religious fervor, that I inadvertently watched this movie the way it was meant to be seen.
I've still got the room spinning slightly right now, and feel like i'm stuck in some kind of hazy nightmare.
Anyone else ever have just the right movie hit them at the right time under the right circumstances?
