LittleBigPlanet Cleans Up at AIAS Awards
by Nick Breckon, Feb 20, 2009 12:31pm PSTMedia Molecule's innovative platformer LittleBigPlanet (PS3) took top honors at the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences awards, held last night at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas.
The title took Overall Game of the Year, in addition to Console Game of the Year, Family Game of the Year, and achievements in Game Direction, Art Direction, Visual Engineering, Character Performance and Innovation in Gaming. The Sackboy himself took home the award for Outstanding Character Performance.
Valve's Left 4 Dead also did well, winning the Computer Game of the Year category and being recognized for its achievements in Online Game Play.

According to them, a stick figure under a different name with no developer defined story or personality whatsoever gets an award for "Outstanding Character Performance".
Also according to them, Mirror's edge (an action/platformer/shooter) is an adventure game, Smash Bros. (a license driven casual party game) is a fighting game, and Rock Band 2 was an "outstanding achievement in soundtrack" because it licensed a lot of already existing popular music and put it in a video game.
They also say Braid is a casual game, I assume that's because it doesn't cost 60 dollars.

The rest is just console fare I don't have the consoles for, and most of them seem too casual for my tastes.
So, am I getting old, or was 2008 a bad year for gaming?
