The Sims Go Hollywood
by Chris Faylor, May 25, 2007 9:42am PDTVariety reports that 20th Century Fox has inked a deal with Electronic Arts to produce a live-action movie based off EA's popular The Sims series (pictured left). The script will be written by Brian Lynch, who recently wrote and directed Big Helium Dog and is also credited as a co-writer on Scary Movie 3. Norbit producer John Davis has been tasked with the project, with EA's The Sims Division studio vice president Rod Humble participating as well. No story details were disclosed, leaving it unclear how the film will be able to recreate the appeal of The Sims' open-ended freedom within the confines of a non-interactive medium. "'The Sims' has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," noted Humble. "Given that that's an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling."
