Dealing with cell phone companies is always a pleasure. Seriously. I suggest calling your cell provider just to chat and perhaps ask a few easy questions about your account. Once you're done with that maybe give your cable company a call. What the hell.

PC and console denial in reply

      August 22, 2005 6:21 PM

      Oh boy!
The XBOX 360 is not too far from release and going to Quakecon always makes me

want to upgrade my machine. I have been buying consoles and upgrading my PC for a

while now but I took a break after I bought a 9800 Pro to play Doom 3. I thought I

was going to just skip the PC as a gaming platform for a while and stick to the

next generation of consoles. After a lot of thought I have decided I am not going

to upgrade my PC for a long time. Maybe a couple of years. I also will not pick up

      the new consoles at launch.

      Why?

I don't spend enough time gaming. There are too many demands on time and it is too

easy for me to spend 2 hours shacking. I have too many books at home that I bought

but never got around to reading. The main reason I will not upgrade and pick up

the new consoles is that I have too many unfinished games as it is and I still

have a few games that I want to replay in the near future.

Games that I own and need to install/finish (it is a longer list but this is off

      the top of my head):

      Quake 2
      Half-Life
      Half-Life 2
      Duke Nukem 3D
      Homeworld
      Psychonauts
      Planescape: Torment
      Fallout
      Fallout 2
      Starcraft
      Warcraft 3
      Age of Empires 2
      Age of Mythology
      Total Annihilation
      Deus-Ex
      System Shock 2
      Sanitarium

      Metroid Prime
      Zelda Wind Waker
      Castlevania Lament of Innocence
      Advance Wars
All three Castlevania games on GBA
      Ninja Gaiden
      Pikmin
      Gunstar Heros (thanks redfield)
      Yoshi's Island
      Radiant Silvergun
      Ikaruga
      Forza
      Halo 2
      Tomb Raider
      Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
      Soul Reaver

There are many more, but between these games, World of Warcraft, and BF2 I think I

am set for at least 2-3 years. There are also a handful of games that I have

finished and I want to play through them again: Symphony fo the Night, Ico, Final

Fantasy 7, Shadowrun,Donkey Kong Country,God of War, Max Payne 2,THPS 2X, etc. The

only game that is being released soon that I plan on buying is Shadow of the

      Colossus.

      TLDR = fuck shackhype!

p.s. If I could borrow somebody's copy of Shadowrun for the Genesis I would appreciate it. I only have the SNES version.

Little by little, my man! I went through a hell march of old games a few formats ago. Good times. I used bitterness as the fuel to burn through whatever old games I'm trying to play through.

Since your post has gone and inspired me, I'm going to run through the rest of Forza in the coming weeks as well as reinstalling/finishing Call of Duty: United Offensive. I just realized that I never finished it. I meant to, but I upgraded to a SATA HDD last year and lost my savegame when I did.

that was the short list. I guess that's a good thing because it means a lot of entertainment for a long time. Man i muist have about 50 unread books here at home. I am set for a while. If I could get a decent chinese and italian restaurant to deliver food I would never leave. Oh wait. I have to work.

I'm knocking out my list, finished up warcraft 3 finally and I written off battlefield 2 as a loss... was going to try doom 3 again, but got distracted with death match classic.. just get in there and finished those games!

seems like work after a while.

This is exactly what I'm thinking of doing

I want a new console for the cool factor, awesome graphics, functionality - wank factor etc but ultimately - I have a seriously large qty of PS2, Xbox and PC games that I should complete

and i'm not talking shitty games either, I'm talking A+ games which I've just been too busy shacking to finish :(

I am in the exact same boat. Sitting out the nextgen rush to catch up on all of the stuff I have piled up. Might pick up one of the consoles once they reach around $200. Who knows, Revolution might debut at $200.

How old are you? this is happening to me too. I have like 7 games for the Xbox pending to finish, San Andreas for PS2 waiting to be finished (I even got the damned slim PS2 just to play that one), Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for GC waiting to be finished too.

I guess the gamer in me wants to keep on playing, but Real Life(TM), the job, going out, the girl, all of that keeps me away from it. I also did a small upgrade to my PC like you (got a Radeon 9800pro) just to play Doom 3 and HL2 (these of course I finished).

And then I'm salivating for an Xbox 360 and got a DS two weeks ago, damn.

I'm in the same boat. 31 and have a pile of games to finish. I may get a long ways into a game, but work, real life, or a different game tends to keep me from finishing games. I think the only reason I finished God Of War when I did is cause it is a REALLY short game.

Coincidentally, I told myself that I would pick up and finish Ninja Gaiden (2 levels left) and Metroid Prime 2 (about 2/3 of the way through) this week. We'll see how that goes. I suspect that Advance Wars DS will dereail those plans.

Getting a DS (and PSP) was never a question for me. I travel all the time for work, I love portable games, and I LOVE puzzle games.

If anything, Lumines and Meteos are the games most responsible for derailing Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime 2 for me.

Burnout 3 is the reason I never finished Ninja Gaiden. Damn that game was addictive.

Gameboys were great when I lived at home and there was competition for the TV. Now whenever I am out of the apartment I am doing something that prevents me from playing on the go.

I'm away from home on business an average of 3-4 months out of the year. Gameboys, ipods, laptop, books, all that stuff comes in handy when you are stuck on a 10+ hour flight.

I had a 33 hour return from South Africa a few months ago. I played LOT of Lumines right there.

I didn't count the three hour drive from the safari lodge I was staying at to the airport.

I stayed an extra 3 days on safari because the trip home is SO FREAKING LONG. The fact that it added three hours of travel time was trivial in the big picture.

                        And THAT is rough.

Learn to block. It really isn't that hard once you get the timing and combos down.

You want to talk about a game that is unfairly hard (as opposed to challenging but fair), play Devil May Cry 3. That game is the definition of hard, yet not fun.

Nintendo wants to try and make a lot of the really old games easier on the eyes while keeping the gameplay untouched. I hope they include "classic" versions too, but I understand why they want to do it. I often try to introduce people I know to older games they didn't play, either because they missed them or because they weren't gamers at the time, but they sometimes just refuse because they say they "look too ugly". It's like when people refuse to watch black and white movies (and I refuse to not punch them in the face). So it's probably for the best.

Yes, and the console is the ideal thing for casual gaming. You just get a game you like and it just works. Simple. Now the next generation of shooters and whatnot are coming for the PC and that means new vidcard, mobo and stuff.

Id say book in an hour a day for game time. Two hours on the weekend. Making sure you have time to chill and making sure you have time to game are two things you should make sure to do! ho ho.

I don't upgrade my machine that much but when I do, I focus on PROcessor and memory and features and then video card is towards the bottom. I keep the focus on the working part of the machine and then I give a nod to the gaming that I do.

we need a list of CLASSIC games that must be re-played - a list of things so we can re-enjoy pc gaming.

obviously some classics are not as good as we think and nostalgia is holding them up - but me, personally, I plan to play very few new PC games and focus primarily on existing pc and console games and one or two new games.

Things like Monkey Island old and Ultima Underworld old I need to re-play

Really need to make a list - like my "movies to watch.xls" list :(
