Comcast Confirms Cable Cord Cut by Partner, Nationwide Fiber Internet Outages Result

Users let wondering what happened to their Comcast internet now know the source of the issue — assuming they can read this story, of course.

We're rather spoiled by constant connection in the modern world, so when things stop working, it's immediately noticeable. That was the case for many Comcast internet users today, with random outages popping up all over the nation. The source of the problem, as it turns out, was a fiber cable being cut by one of Comcast's partners.

In a provided statement (via CNBC), Comcast said that "one of Comcast’s large backbone network partners had a fiber cut that we believe is also impacting other providers. It is currently affecting our business and residential internet, video and voice customers. We apologize and are working to get services restored as soon as possible."

According to various statements provided by Comcast through the Comcast Cares Twitter account, the company currently has no timeline for when services may be restored.

As far as we can tell, the cut fiber line primarily affects those with Comcast or Xfinity services. Other users on competing networks like AT&T seem to be reporting no issues whatsoever.

I'm sure that Comcast will find a way to not provide credit for anyone for this outage.

They actually admitted there was an outage?

I remember not all that long back, when you could NEVER get a cable company to admit their service was down. They always, always, ALWAYS wanted to blame the consumer for the issue. if they went to your house and found the issue was in your walls, they would charge you for the trip out.

I was floored the first time I called Time Warner and they admitted there was service outage in my area. I mean I was totally shocked.

Or that the provider would fucking have a redundant backbone to make the internet work, you know, like it's supposed to.

The secret is to keep the bar so low that keeping two tin cans taut with 100' of string is considered competitive in the American ISP marketplace.
