Fortnite Season 8 teaser hints at pirate-themed treasure hunt

Fortnite may have lost some of its player base in recent weeks to upstart Apex Legends, but it seems like the team at Epic Games has something really fun planned for Season 8. They just tweeted out a teaser for what to expect from Fortnite Season 8. Please take a look.

Between the hook hand image, and the references to treasure and pirate lingo, it seems pretty obvious that the next season of Fortnite will have something to do with plundering that booty. Rare's Joe Neate tweeted the following in response to Epic Games' teaser.

While Sea of Thieves may have taken some time to gain momentum, Fortnite already has a ton of people playing their game. Players are currently wrapping up Season 7 with overtime challenges to unlock a free Battle Pass. Epic Games definitely listened to the requests from players with their recent patch which enabled the ability to earn a Battle Pass instead of forking over hard-earned V-Bucks. Fortnite's Creative Director Donald Mustard chatted with us about how the game keeps changing at the 2019 D.I.C.E. Awards earlier this month.

Fortnite is definitely setting the pace in the race to the best Battle Royale game in the genre, but there are certainly some viable competitors. Apex Legends has taken the gaming world by storm, and recently even topped Fortnite's record for single-day Twitch views. Fortnite isn't taking this new competition lying down with the announcement of a $100 million esports prize pool at a Fortnite World Cup where the winners will pocket $3 million.

Today's teaser from Epic Games has Fortnite fans excited, and there are certainly more games that could benefit from a battle royale mode. In this week's Shack Chat we asked, "which game or genre deserves a battle royale next?" With the recent successes of Tetris 99 and Apex Legends, we expect to see more game studios enter this arms race. In the meantime, Fortnite players now have an idea of what to expect in Season 8. Get ready to plunder that booty, Shacknews!
