    Political

SCOTUS upholds the validity of how the CFRB is funded as constitutional, only Alito and Gorsuch dissenting.

Challenge was that the CFRB did not get funded through appropriations but instead drew funds from the Treasury as per its Congressional establishment. SCOTUS states there's no problem with this. This indirectly helps to protect things like SS and Medicare which are drawn out in similar manners.

One of the first big tests on how the executive branch has typically operated, we are still waiting to hear about the Chevron deferment situation (though orals favored keeping it)

We tried no mow may and the town threatened us with 12k in fines and 90 days in jail.

Meanwhile my neighbors collectively have clear cut about 500 total years worth of trees on their properties which have doubled our AC bill in the summer and led to our house flooding for the first time since it was built 70 years ago.

America! Why are we like this?

Y'all ever play a cheap crappy game on Steam where it's really apparent that the whole thing was machine translated to English and never had anyone look over it?

I figured that's what they did for this game, but I didn't realize just how many corners they had cut.

Deadlock. Next Valve game. Previously known as Neon Prime, Citadel. Competitive third person hero-based shooter. 6 vs 6 battling on huge map with 4 lanes. Usable abilities and items. Tower defense mechanics. Fantasy setting mixed with steampunk. Magicians, weird creatures and robots. Fast travel using floating rails, similar to Bioshock Infinite.

Supposed details on Valves next game? IDK how reliable, someone just linked it to me lol.

    3rd person :(

I'm a 56 year old gamer, I don't care that the character I am playing is black or a girl or trans or deaf or a psychopath or an alien. Why do so many political commentators play games these days? See AC Shadows controversy. Maybe Pong prepared me for this.

Fun things to do in Vegas if I'm going solo, don't drink, and barely gamble?

I think I'm going to head out there one weekend next month to catch Love before The Mirage closes. I've already seen the Mob Museum and the Atomic Testing Museum, and I want to check out the Pinball Museum while I'm out there, but I don't know what else I should be looking at.

    Tokyo vs New York

I've been watching the TV show Tokyo Vice, which is awesome,, but it made me wonder how big Tokyo was - google says 13.96 million. Then I googled New York, which is about half that, at around ~8 million.

So then I was like, "is it safer?" The Justice Dept. crime states say "NEW YORK CITY RECORDED FOUR TIMES AS MANY RAPES, FIVE TIMES AS MANY HOMICIDES, AND 150 TIMES AS MANY ROBBERIES AS OCCURRED WITHIN THE SAME PERIOD IN TOKYO." - sorry for all caps, it's how it is in the site.

    https://www.ojp.gov/ncjrs/virtual-library/abstracts/crimes-new-york-and-tokyo-sociocultural-perspectives#:~:text=ALTHOUGH%20THEY%20SHARE%20MANY%20OF,THE%20SAME%20PERIOD%20IN%20TOKYO.

pic of relative crime rates in big cities - https://imgur.com/a/CdusDRB

    Finally, what about Covid deaths?

According to google: New York is 55,000 -- Tokyo is 4,500

Anyway, crazy that a city that big can be so much safer than New York. I want to go visit it one of these days!!

Google AI Overviews: will they reduce Traffic to origin sites?

Soon, AI Overviews will step in for a far broader array of uses. On stage, head of Google Search Liz Reid described how information on movies, travel, books “and more” will be served. A video demo showed a person asking Google “Why does my candle burn unevenly?” and is quickly shown a paragraph’s long explanation and solution. No more clicks needed.
Of course, Google didn’t write that information — someone else did. Or, more likely, a number of people did; their expertise has been synthesized into one clear answer. The AI-powered panel does contain links to related content on the web, for sure, but there’s often little reason to click it... AI Overviews is a troubling development for the wider web economy….When Google started sourcing its information directly in search results, traffic plummetedbecause of what analytics firm SimilarWeb called the “zero click” effect — users obtaining the information they were seeking without needing to click through to the source.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2024-05-15/google-s-new-search-engine-ai-overviews-is-bad-news-for-the-web-economy?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_term=240515&utm_campaign=sharetheview

I’m worried that between this AI’s outright theft of information, and the resulting dropoff in clicks to the originating sites, we’re hurtling towards an information desert.
