Two days after the developer revealed a publishing partnership with Paradox Interactive, publisher My.com announced that Obsidian will be lending a hand with a new free-to-play sci-fi fantasy MMORPG called Skyforge. The game will be primarily developed by in-house studio Allods Team, with Obsidian coming aboard to help the Russian developer design their game towards western markets.

South Park: The Stick of Truth review: Oh, hamburgers!

South Park: The Stick of Truth review: Oh, hamburgers!

Fans have been waiting for quite some time for South Park: The Stick of Truth. Repeatedly delayed over the years, the Obsidian-developed RPG is finally seeing the light of day. And while the RPG mechanics are overly simplistic and the game suffers from major bugs, this is an authentic South Park experience that will delight show devotees.

The story follows a "new kid" moving to the titular town. The silent protagonist quickly makes friends with Butters and Cartman, who initiate him into their fantasy tribe of elves. But the plot soon moves beyond defending the Stick of Truth from Kyle's band of humans and into something far bigger, expanding into a story that would more than fit in with Trey Parker and Matt Stone's hit television series.

Project Eternity's difficulty 'about more than numbers'

Project Eternity's difficulty 'about more than numbers'

There are some players that have encountered RPG's that will attempt to fight fire with fire, in terms of numbers. If one player brings three friends along, the game will compensate by adding more monsters. Obsidian hopes to change this trend with the upcoming Project Eternity. During a panel at GDC Next, lead designer Josh Sawyer emphasized that scaling difficulty is more than just adding more monsters and scaling damage.

Obsidian's KOTOR 3 would have featured showdown with ancient Sith

Obsidian's KOTOR 3 would have featured showdown with ancient Sith

Obsidian Entertainment never got the chance to create a sequel to Knights of the Old Republic 2, but of course the studio had a vision for where they wanted the series to go.

"When we were plotting out the idea of doing the third game we just thought it would be cool if we were foreshadowing what Revan was really doing in Knights of the Old Republic 1, and what he was preparing for in Knights of the Old Republic 2, and then bring it to a close, the end of the trilogy, but we didn't get a chance to do that," Obsidian's Chris Avellone said.

Obsidian and inXile are awfully chummy, with a shared history going back to Interplay and Black Isle Studios, close enough that they want to lend members like a cup of sugar. Both Californian studios are making crowdfunded Unity-based old-school RPGs too, and so are putting their heads together. inXile today announced that they'll be collaborating on tools and tech with each other.
