Nintendo DS games coming to Wii U Virtual Console

The dual-screen experience of the Wii U harkens back to Nintendo's surprise hit, the DS, and the company plans to capitalize on those similarities. At its financial results meeting, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that the company will be bringing DS games to the Virtual Console service on the Wii U.

Even without the PlayStation 4 launch, next week would bring a solid lineup of new releases, including the XCOM: Enemy Within expansion, space sim X Rebirth, the revamped Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition, Injustice: Gods Among Us for PC, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, sci-fi social network sim Redshirt, and Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior. With the PS4 arriving too, oh me oh my it's a big week.

New game releases of November 4-10

Next week brings the first next-gen game, with the release of what one imagines will surely be the second-best-selling game of the year, Call of Duty: Ghosts. For whatever reason, the PS4 version is imminent, even if you can't play for some time.

We're also getting Wii Sports Club, Tale of Tales' sensual Luxuria Superbia, Sid Meier's Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies, the proper PC launch of State of Decay, and the very last game from Arkedo, Poof VS the Cursed Kitty.

Some solid bangers are smashing into next week like a wrecking ball, including Batman: Arkham Origins, the Director's Cut of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Eldritch, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies. Oh, and a new Commodore 64 release, on a cartridge and everything.

Doodle Jump bounding onto 3DS and DS

Having bounced gaily all over mobile doodads, Doodle Jump is now coming to Nintendo's handhelds. Publisher GameMill has announced Doodle Jump Adventures for Nintendo 3DS, which comes with a new 'Adventure' mode, and plain old Doodle Jump Journey for DS.

"Oh, the summer video game drought!" fools lament. Tush and fie! Maybe the shelves are looking a little empty, but download stores are bulging with wonders next week. My pick of the week is first-person explorer Gone Home, and we'll also get Disney Infinity, co-op heister Payday 2, punk beat 'em up Charlie Murder, DuckTales Remastered, shiny tabletop adaptation Space Hulk, and Europa Universalis IV.

Nintendo is selling refurbished 3DS and DSi XL systems directly on its website. "Authentic Nintendo Refurbished Products" are, according to the manufacturer, "the only refurbished products in the market that have been cleaned, tested, and inspected to meet Nintendo's high standards." They also come with a one year warranty.

Is a pirated game truly a lost sale? Do some people buy games after playing a pirate copy? In a way, it doesn't really matter. Bayonetta creator Platinum's multiplayer fighter Anarchy Reigns is the star of next week's new release list, which is otherwise pretty thin. We'll see tower defense Fieldrunners 2 and spaceship shooter Dawnstar both hit PC, Earth Defense Force 2017 invading Vita, and, well, not much else.
