Max Payne 3 MP pits cheaters against cheaters

Playing against hackers and cheaters in multiplayer games is rarely fun, so now Rockstar is showing them just how it feels. It's hit upon a cruel and unusual punishment for cheaters in Max Payne 3's multiplayer: forcing them to play in a "Cheaters Pool" filled only with other hoodlums.

Max Payne 3 review

Max Payne 3 review

It's been nine years since Max Payne embarked on his last shoot-'em-up. Beloved by many gamers (including me) for his nothing-to-lose attitude borne from tragedies experienced in his first two outings, he's a self-deprecating and sarcastically-melancholic character whose core determination to do the right thing in the face of seemingly-impossible odds drives him forward, often at his own peril. Max Payne 3 marks the titular anti-hero's triumphant return. Not only is the third chapter in the series the most satisfying installment--both in presentation and in mechanics--it also delivers one of the most focused and memorable narrative experiences in a third-person shooter.

Max Payne 3 arcade modes detailed

Max Payne 3 arcade modes detailed

Max Payne 3 is sure to be a dark, cinematic adventure with noir overtones, with the type of depressing story that could put you in a blue funk. If you need a break from all that negativity, though, the game will feature two arcade modes to rack up points like an old-school video game, and reward your success with multiplayer benefits.

Max Payne 3 preview

Max Payne 3 preview

A full console generation, a new developer, and almost a decade has passed since Max Payne's last moody outing. Now that he's finally returning in Max Payne 3, the series has plenty of expectations riding on it, while attempting to preserve its noir tone and signature style. The game certainly pays homage to the most iconic elements of the series, but it might lean on them a little too much.
