Guitar, DJ, and Band Hero DLC purchases to end on March 31

Guitar, DJ, and Band Hero DLC purchases to end on March 31

While Activision stopped development of Hero games quite some time ago, gamers were still able to buy DLC for their games. However, new DLC purchases won't be available come March 31st. The discontinuation is likely due to Activision no longer wanting to renew licenses associated with the DLC. For example, Rock Band developer Harmonix updates its fan base every quarter on the status of any potentially expired licenses.

While new purchases won't be supported after March 31st, any previously purchased DLC will be unaffected by the change.

Axl Rose case against Activision moving forward

Axl Rose case against Activision moving forward

It appears that half of Axl Rose's lawsuit against Activision will given the go-ahead by a California judge. While the judge indicated he would throw out Rose's claims of fraud, he may let his breach-of-contract claim remain for the trial to go forward next February. Rose claims he agreed to let "Welcome to the Jungle" be used in the music game, as long as it didn't feature any references to his former guitarist, Slash. Of course, Slash featured prominently in the game's marketing materials, even appearing on the cover.

The Guitar Hero franchise fell "because it didn't have any nourishment and care," Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick admitted to Forbes in an interview about the monolithic publisher's approach to innovating. Kotick also said that the DJ Hero series, also currently on hiatus, flopped because there simply wasn't an audience to support it.
