One of the last tweets from Curt Schilling before his game studios, Big Huge Games and 38 Studios, collapsed talked up sales of their first title, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. "Reckoning, 38 Studios first game, has outperformed EA's projections by selling 1.2mm copies in its first 90 days," he said.
While those are impressive figures, they were not enough to keep the studio afloat. At a press conference, Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee said that the game was a failure and that it would need to sell over 3 million copies "just to break even."

Although it launched to great fanfare, it's clear that The Old Republic is struggling. Electronic Arts revealed a startling drop of 25 percent of its subscriber base since launch, and has since announced layoffs at BioWare Austin, the team behind the expensive MMO. But, how dire is the situation, really?
One dedicated fan wanted to find out exactly how many people are on The Old Republic's servers. "What is going to happen when server transfers go live," SWTOR user Scorpienne asked. "How many people are on which servers?"

Mass Effect Infiltrator is a mobile tie-in for Mass Effect 3. This side story follows Randall Ezno, a Cerberus agent that has "gone rogue." Developed by IronMonkey Studios, the game is a pretty decent touch screen adaptation of BioWare's sci-fi franchise, but fans will likely care most about the game's connection to the "Galaxy at War" system. By collecting intel in the game, you'll boost your "Galactic Readiness Rating" in Mass Effect 3, improving your chances on beating the Reaper threat in the game.

Perhaps this news was inevitable, given the struggles high-profile MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic has faced since launch. Publisher Electronic Arts has announced plans to "restructure" BioWare Austin, weeks after announcing a subscriber loss of nearly 25 percent. In a statement to Shacknews, the publisher said: "BioWare has restructured its studio in Austin today. Of the employees impacted, some will be able to join other projects within EA, others will leave the company. These are very difficult decisions, but it allows us to focus our staff to maintain and grow Star Wars: The Old Republic."

When developer DICE first made the push to move away from managing any Battlefield 3 servers itself--instead, making a push for community-run, Custom Servers--it caused quite a stir with the game's dedicated community. Some folks found themselves getting booted from Custom Servers more often, or found themselves in matches with ridiculously high kill or ticket count, for example. Players on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 discovered that while the official DICE-controlled Battlefield 3 console servers were still there, they had been rented out to players as Custom Servers as well.
Publisher Electronic Arts has apparently been listening to the community's understandably negative feedback about the issue, and has returned the official DICE-run servers to console players today.

US District Judge Claudia Wilken has refused to dismiss a class action suit that alleges EA conspired to use the likenesses of NCAA student athletes without compensation. The suit claims that the publisher and NCAA colluded in the decision to have players sign away their rights. While some of the other claims in the civil suit have been thrown out, this one is being allowed to go forward.

Some Battlefield 3 players have been lamenting the recent lack of official DICE-run servers when playing online--even on consoles. Ever since the launch of user-rentable servers, many have been finding it difficult to play "vanilla" gametypes. "I rarely got kicked from a DICE server," our own Tyler Smith lamented, speaking about his experience on consoles. "But once the rented servers bit took off I got kicked quite a bit." He claimed that it's now "damn near impossible to find official servers," and that many rented servers feature games with absurd requirements. "I don't want to play a TDM to 500 kills or a conquest to 700 tickets," one commenter voiced on VentureBeat.
So what has been going on?

Electronic Arts is one of the leakiest publishers around. While there have been murmurs about Dead Space 3 for quite some time, the publisher only recently confirmed that "a new title from the Dead Space franchise is coming this fiscal year."
Earlier rumors suggested Isaac Clarke's third journey would take him to an icy planet. However, a new report suggests Isaac won't be alone for this outing. Dead Space 3 will supposedly feature support for drop-in, drop-out co-op.

Mass Effect 3 players on PlayStation 3 missed out on a few weeks of "N7 Operations." While BioWare and Sony eventually figured out a way to implement the themed multiplayer challenges, PS3 players still missed out on a number of goodies they would have received if the challenges were available. Lament no more, PS3 owners! BioWare is simply giving away the goodies for free this week--so long as you log-in.
