Report: Disney Infinity to introduce Marvel, Star Wars characters

Disney Interactive is reportedly preparing to introduce two of its big recent acquisitions into Disney Infinity: Marvel and Star Wars. The toy-game hybrid led to one of the publisher's few profitable quarters in recent history, and a report states that "new versions" of the game will include characters from the popular franchises.

Epic Mickey 2's musical intro unveiled

Remember when Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two was first announced and the musical numbers in the game were played up, much to the chagrin of developer Warren Spector? Well, publisher Disney Interactive has finally released the opening cinematic sequence that caused Spector to gush about the musical aspects of the game at the preview event.

Warren Spector thinks biggest next-gen challenges are creative, not technical

Industry luminary Warren Spector--developer of Deus Ex and, more recently, the upcoming Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two--has weighed in on all of the next-gen console hype and speculation that's been floating around. It appears that Spector views video game technology much like any artist would view his paint, canvass, and brush. Simply having better tools doesn't necessarily make what's produced with those tools better by proxy. That's more of a creative problem.

Epic Mickey 2 coming to PC, Mac

Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two has added two more platforms to its line-up: the PC and Mac. The console development is split between two teams -- Junction Point on the Wii version, and Blitz Games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A separate game, Power of Illusion, is coming to the 3DS from developer Dreamrift.

Disney Universe announced for fall

Today Disney Interactive Studios announced Disney Universe, a multiplayer-focused action adventure game coming to PC/Mac, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii this fall. The game mashes up various Disney properties from the live-action, animation, and Pixar labels, letting you wear snazzy themed outfits.

The announcement promises more than 40 Disney costumes to choose from, including Alice (Alice in Wonderland), Mike (Monsters Inc.), Tron (Tron: Legacy), and Stitch (Lilo & Stitch), each with its own abilities. Your little doppelgangers will then use said abilities to navigate through six Disney-themed worlds, with up to three other players. Read more »

An undisclosed number of staff have been made redundant at Split/Second and Pure developer Black Rock Studio, owner Disney Interactive has confirmed. Rumours whispered to Eurogamer say as many as 100 staff may have been let go.

Toy Story 3: The Video Game Gets Trailer, Screens

Avalanche Software, makers of Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour and Disney's Bolt, will be releasing Toy Story 3: The Video Game along with the feature film from Pixar.

Split/Second Release Dates Announced

Disney Interactive Studios have announced the release dates for Black Rock Studio's Split/Second, an explosion-filled racer for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Why do I write "dates"? Because Europeans will be getting the title a few days later than those of us in North America.

Split/Second will be released on May 18, 2010 in North America and on May 21, 2010 in Europe. I got to play a single track at E3 2009 and let me tell you, it's a whole lot of fun. Here's a trailer: Read more »

Disney Buys Wideload, Makes Halo Creator VP

Halo co-creator Alex Seropian has joined Disney Interactive Studios as "vice president of creative," a new role that will see the outspoken industry veteran "overseeing creative development across Disney Interactive Studios' portfolio of video games."

In addition, Disney will acquire Chicago-based Stubbs the Zombie and Hail to the Chimp developer Wideload Games, which Seropian formed after leaving Halo developer Bungie. Prior to joining Disney, Seropian had been serving as CEO of Wideload. Read more »

Deus Ex Veteran's 'Epic Mickey' Coming to Wii, Amazing Artwork Includes Zombie Goofy

Warren Spector's rumored Disney-meets-steampunk project "Epic Mickey" is rumor no more, as confirmation and art have emerged by way of online resumes and portfolios.

Coming from the Disney-owned Junction Point Studios, Epic Mickey is being developed for the Wii, going by the resume of current Junction artist Tony Pulham. The resume has since been updated to remove the reference, with "undisclosed title" replacing Pulham's previous mention of "Epic Mickey (Wii Video Game)." Read more »

Pure Dev Unveils Destructive Racer Split/Second

The folks over at Black Rock Studio, responsible for last year's trick-based ATV racer Pure, and studio owner Disney Interactive today revealed the developer's next project.

Titled Split/Second, it's an explosion-filled city racer coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in early 2010. The premise involves a "hyper-competitive reality show" in which players trigger explosions to run their competitors off-road and create new routes. Read more »
