Devolver Digital surprised many with their announcement that they'd be reviving the long-dormant Shadow Warrior franchise. After all, it wasn't the most fondly remembered game, as the 1997 first-person action game was more recognized for racist caricatures and outdated stereotypes. However, Devolver and Hard Reset developer Flying Wild Hog says that their reboot will be a complete reinvention and will start with a clean slate.
"The teams at Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital were big fans of the original game," said Devolver Digital's Nigel Lowrie. "It brought some great gameplay innovations and a really unique setting and aesthetic to shooters. We think it would be incredible to reinvent the Shadow Warrior world in a modern arcade-style shooter with some new combat innovations of our own that expand upon what was started in the original game."

Delightful murder simulator Hotline Miami was never supposed to receive a sequel, so we should be jolly grateful that its planned DLC ended up morphing into one. But after that, developer Dennaton Games says, that's it. No more. It'll bow out murdering men in the early nineties then after that, you'll need to satisfy any head-stomping urges yourself.

The Independent Games Festival (IGF) is a celebration of gaming's hidden gems. On March 27th, five games will compete to win the Seumas McNally Grand Prize. Every weekday until then, Shacknews will be highlighting a finalist, exploring what makes each game so unique.
Hotline Miami probably could be nominated for its soundtrack alone. Dennaton Games' stylish 2D beat 'em up is a bload-soaked murder-fest. But beneath the fast-paced combat and combo-powered high score system lies a sinister plot--one that will have you questioning the reasons behind your rampage.

Hotline Miami got a lot of attention on PC last year (though arguably not enough). In case you missed it on the ol' computer box, though, you'll be able to play it on the PlayStation 3 and Vita this spring. Better yet, it will be a cross-buy title, so purchasing either one nets you both versions.

A neon haze of ultraviolence is descending upon PC later this month, as publisher Devolver Digital has announced top-down murderfest Hotline Miami will launch on October 23, priced at $9.99. That's two weeks to dig out your finest pig mask and sharpen your reflexes for a gaudy world of messy one-hit kills and leaderboard rivalries.

Two-person studio Vlambeer has made a name for itself with tight arcade-y games like Super Crate Box, Radical Fishing and Serious Sam: The Random Encounter, and it seems set to continue that streak across PC and consoles with Luftrausers. The sequel to free 2D dogfight 'em up Luftrauser sends you into the skies in a plane of your own design to destroy oodles of enemy planes and ships, just because they're naughty.
