Trine 2 expansion pack to add new levels and abilities

Trine 2 expansion pack to add new levels and abilities

Are you ready for more Trine? Frozenbyte is working on a significant expansion pack to Trine 2. And although it is technically downloadable content, the scope of the project has the developer hesitant to call it "DLC."

Coming later this year (before Summer, the delay-prone developer hopes) is a as-of-yet unnamed expansion that will add a brand new six level campaign, with new enemies and a new story. Best of all, the three heroes of Trine will be granted new abilities that carry over into the original Trine 2.

Persona 4 Arena coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 this Summer

Persona 4 Arena coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 this Summer

The Persona 4 fighting game is coming to the US. Titled Persona 4 Arena for its North American release, the hand-drawn 2D fighting game features characters from Persona 3 and 4, and makes them pummel each other relentlessly. While the game may be published by Atlus, Arena is developed by Arc System Works, developers behind the BlazBlue and Guilty Gear franchises.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will include enhancements over the Japanese arcade original, such as a "full Story mode" and online multiplayer.

Demon's Souls 'underestimated' by Sony

Demon's Souls 'underestimated' by Sony

There's a reason why Demon's Souls was a PS3 exclusive. In Japan, the game was published by Sony. However, in America, the game was published by Atlus--after Sony's US division passed on the opportunity to release the game stateside. In a new interview, Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida admitted that the refusal was "one of Sony's biggest software mistakes this generation."

"We underestimated the quality of the game," Yoshida said.

Gungnir coming to PSP in June 2012

What's a Vita? Atlus has announced plans to release yet another tactical RPG exclusively for the PSP. Oddly, the game isn't planned to come out until June 12, 2012--well after the North American launch of Sony's next generation portable.

Gungnir is from Sting, the makers of Knights in the Nightmare, a well-regarded tactical RPG that released on DS and PSP. Gungnir introduces a new twist: a risk/reward system where players can sacrifice tactical points to enable new combat options. Players can choose to battle quickly, or methodically, and promises to make every battle "deep."

King of Fighters XIII patch to improve online play

King of Fighters XIII patch to improve online play

Wonky online play can ruin one of life's simplest pleasures--punching people in the face--so SNK Playmore is working to improve online offerings in The King of Fighters XIII with an upcoming patch. On top of fixing "a number of rare glitches," the patch will help resolve laggy multiplayer by improving connection evaluations.

"The patch will seek to make the game's network infrastructure more consistent for users, ensuring that the evaluation given connections is more accurate to the actual play experience," SNK Playmore and publisher Atlus explained.

Trine 2 review

Trine 2 review

Indie developer Frozenbyte has crafted one of the most beautiful 2D games I have ever seen.

Trine 2's twelve hour quest was likely lengthened by how often I got distracted by that beauty. The level of graphical detail is astounding to see, whether in the forests, swamps, or caverns. Every world I encountered was filled with rich color, vibrant backgrounds, and meticulously-detailed objects from one edge of the screen to the other.

King of Fighters XIII DLC plans detailed

With The King of Fighters due to launch next week, publisher Atlus has revealed a little of its downloadable content plans for the latest in the long-running fighter series.

The DLC releases will kick off "shortly" after KoF XIII launches for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 22. The most interesting revealed so far is "fan favorite" character 'Iori with the Power of Flames' from KoF '98, who'll arrive on December 7, priced at $5 (400 Microsoft Points).

Trine 2's 'Unlimited Mode' lets you play as any character

Trine 2's 'Unlimited Mode' lets you play as any character

The original Trine was a terrific platformer that relied upon the cooperative balance of the three main characters: the Knight, the Thief, and the Mage.

Well, screw balance. If you want to be the Knight and your co-op buddy wants to be one too, don't worry. Trine 2's newly announced "Unlimited Mode" lets you play as any character you want. If you want a team of three Mages, feel free. Want everyone to swing around as a Thief? No problem.
