Avatar: The Game Trailer Ignites the War

A new trailer for James Cameron's Avatar: The Game arrived today. It showcases the alien world of Pandora and its colorful, yet aggressive denizens, the Na'vi. Players face them as RDA Corporation Soldiers and giant armored mechs in fights ranging through the jungles. Alien panther-like animals and large red rhinos are thrown into the mix, for good measure.

Players will be able to fight alongside RDA Corp, or side with the indigenous aliens when Avatar arrives on December 1 for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, PSP and Wii. You can check out our previous coverage of Avatar: The Game here.

PlayStation Store Update Brings Demos Galore

It's a demo-heavy week for the North American PlayStation Store, as this week's update delivered a variety of downloadable samples: Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Fat Princess, LocoRoco Midnight Carnival PSP, Jak and Daxter PSP, and more.

A number of downloadable titles also arrived, including Inferno Pool and re-releases of Capcom's various PSP offerings, as did a new map for Fat Princess (it's included in the game's free automatic update) and the usual smattering of add-ons... Read more

If you ask me, Salem and Rios are a little old for trick or treating. Then again, were the virtual duo to suddenly apparate in front of me, I doubt I'd have much to say.

In case haven't looked at a calendar lately, Halloween is a mere two days away. Army of Two: The 40th Day, meanwhile, won't hit PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP until January 12.

Avatar: The Game doesn't have any bad guys, so apparently you spend the game knitting and/or in a lot of awkward conversations.

You can also play Avatar: The Game as a trooper or as an Avatar. Of course, either way you're playing as an avatar. I'll let you ponder that one.

Avatar arrives November 24 on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, PSP and Wii.

SOCOM 3 PSP Delayed Due to Marketing

Slant Six's squad shooter sequel SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs: Fireteam Bravo 3 (PSP), once due this year, is now slated to hit North American shops on January 12, 2010.
The developer had revealed a November 24 release date weeks ago, though the announcement was rather quickly removed with no explanation.

On the PlayStation.Blog, producer Mark Rogers explained that though "development is on schedule and we are extremely pleased with all aspects of the title," global marketing issues necessitated a delay to "allow time to get the word out to everyone."

Dante's Inferno PSP Screens: Hellish High Heels

Packing "five man-rageous levels of brotherly love and muscle-on-muscle madness" plus "heightened experiences of rhythmic action," the "manliest shooter ever" has players fighting Emperor Balzac II (say it out loud) to save the universe's protein supply.

LucasArts has released the official system requirements for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition: The Video Game, and while most of the bullet-points are pretty reasonable, the 24GB install is certainly a little intimidating.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 DLC Trailer: Cable

Heavily-armed cyborg mutant from the future Cable is latest character announced for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2's upcoming downloadable content pack, joining a lineup of new characters which also includes Carnage and Psylocke.

Several new simulation missions will arrive in the DLC, with "arena-style" boss fights and a mission described as "an homage" to 'the old school X-Men/Avengers 2.5d arcade "brawlers'" revealed so far. Neither a price nor release date has been announced yet.

Think of Army of Two: The 40th Day's new extraction mode as a mobile version of Horde or Firefight. Up to four players will move through four zones, surviving progressively challenging waves of enemy fighters.

You can also think of it as a preorder bonus, as only those that pre-buy the game will be able to play Extraction in the first month of the game's release. Bummer.

Need for Speed Franchise Passes 100 Million Sales

Electronic Arts' racing franchise Need for Speed has now sold over 100 million units worldwide since the series' debut in 1994, with over $2.7 billion in sales accumulated in those 15 years.

"The main thrust of the sales has actually come in the last six years, where we've averaged over 12 million units per year," said Need for Speed VP of marketing Keith Munro to Gamasutra.

Need for Speed Shift.
Munro posits that the series' recent trend of featuring more accessible cars is a key reason for its recent success. "Our consumers might actually own these cars, or parents might have one in the garage," he said.

"The older Need For Speed games were more of the exotic supercars on the Italian countryside," he said, pointing to 2003's Need for Speed: Underground as a turning point for the series.

LocoRoco Midnight Carnival Rolling Out October 29

SCEA's Halloween-themed PSP sequel to the roly-poly LocoRoco franchise hits the PlayStation Network on October 29, according to Sony.

16 stages, competitive and co-op modes, two mini-games and additional bonuses will be included in the $15 game. Sony's promising more details on the multiplayer next week, but in the meantime, check out a few new screenshots of the game below.

Savage Moon Bringing Sci-Fi Tower Defense to PSP

Following the release of its downloadable PlayStation 3 strategy game Savage Moon earlier this year, developer FluffyLogic is now bringing the series to PSP.

Dubbed "Savage Moon: The Hera Campaign," the portable incarnation features new enemies, environments and other new content. As with other tower defense titles, the game has players building and upgrading weapons to take down invading foes.
