Riddick Gets Map Pack, 'Commentary Mode' DLC

8
Two new bits of downloadable content for Starbreeze's The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena were today released for the Xbox 360 version of the shooter.

Currently only available to Xbox Live Gold members, Commentary Mode is a free download said to add four and a half hours of developer commentary to the single-player Escape from Butcher Bay campaign.

Meanwhile, the Premium MP Pack delivers five multiplayer maps--"Munity" (Butcher Bay Riot), "Sneerock" (Deathmatch), "Tracker Star" (Capture the Flag), "Viper Run" (Butcher Bay Riot) and "The Tangle" (Pitch Black)--at the price of 800 MS Points ($10).

No word yet if these add-ons will be coming to the PC and PlayStation 3 editions, though the PlayStation 3's online PlayStation Store should receive its weekly update shortly.

    The marketing disaster called Riddick.
Amazing how they are able to push away so many customers.
I wonder how their PC sales charts are doing... I was so keen on buying this, if those idiots would actually sell the game instead of lend it.

      Why? What happened with it?

I assume he is refering to the DRM used with the game; limited to 3 installs, calling home everytime you play etc? I belive it was something like that.

Hasn't been selling well on consoles as well.

It's only gotten to 100,000 copies on all three consoles as well.

I thought Riddick would save Atari, but Atari dropped the ball with marketing.

lol, DRM alarmists are hilarious. If you think that "so many customers" were pushed away by this, you're deluding yourself.

I can only account for myself and the gaming people around me. Many wanted to buy it, none eventually did.

I guess now they at least cant blame piracy for the bad sales, hell the lack of a pirated version might even have had a negative inpacted the sales. Much less "mouth-2-mouth" commercial this way.
On top of that a demo was promised to the pc users, upfront even i believe. Could be me, but i cant find it.

The DRM issue i wont even address anymore, its more than clear that drm hurts sales more than it helps.

I'm the same. While I have my reservations on DRM, you've gotta laugh at all of the "take a stand" alarmists who act like they're being diddled out of some basic human right simply for the fact that DRM exists. Posting "0" reviews on Metacritic/Amazon despite never having neared the game and then likely going on to pirate the games yourselves out of some misplaced sense of ill-treatment isn't going to help anyone. Just buy the fucking game, DRM or not, and support the developers still bothering to make games for PC who (have greedy publishers that) are just trying to protect their product.

I got a hold of Dark Athena a few weeks after release, after it had sold out in local brick and mortar stores and all major UK E-tailers for PC in the first day of sales. Which I guess goes to show just how little many people are perturbed by DRM, despite the typical claims. Anyway, I had a total blast with it and am yet to replay the revamped EFBB campaign, which is probably another 10-15 hours of great gaming right there. I didn't somehow eat up 10 installs during my time with it, DRM didn't rape my baby and I'm sure we'll see a revoke tool for the installs before I'm even close to using up the allotted number for it. If we /don't/ then I should be eating my words, as DRM would then be a genuine concern for me. But it seems to be becoming a trend that a revoke tool is released after the initial sales period, which makes DRM almost a total non-issue for me.

Not being pro-DRM here in any way, just offering a counterpoint to the tired arguments I see all the time. Change the tune or STFU for god's sake, we've seen it all before.

I didn't even know it was out. For someone that lives and breathes video games this is unusual, perhaps it was a disaster in that regard.

Is this a joke or what? I see your name here all the time, and there was TONS of marketing in the run-up to release of DA. Their marketing machine was in overdrive with the constant flurry of screenshots, diaries and trailers being posted here
