Cell Processor Shrinking to 45nm in 2009, Paves Way for PS3 Price Cuts
Sony and Toshiba will begin production of a smaller 45nm Cell processor in 2009, according to Engadget.
The 45nm version of the chip used in the PlayStation 3 will cost less than the current 65nm chip, while requiring 40% less power.
The drop in cost of the PS3 processor could lead to price cuts for Sony's game console should the hardware manufacturer upgrade to the newer chip.
