StarCraft MMO Announcing Soon?

So the rumor mill has been going pretty wild lately and at least a couple different sources are pointing towards a StarCraft universe-based massively multiplayer game as the announcement coming soon in Korea. Blizzard has already confirmed that it plans to announce a new product on May 19th in Korea and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to speculate that it is StarCraft-related given the venue. The Blizzard rep quote, in case you forgot:

"We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present."

In addition, CVG has been told by "well placed US sources" that a StarCraft MMO is in the works. So there you go, a StarCraft MMO may be coming soon. Or, as is more likely with Blizzard timetables, within the next 5 years.

I seriously doubt they would cannibalize their own MMO so I wonder how Starcraft will be played, as I don't expect it to be the typical hack and slash that WoW is. Unless it is projected so far down the pipeline they don't fear self competition.

I have the same doubt. Though, if they did similar to Starwars Galaxies (with less suck) I could see them hitting a slightly different market.

There is also something to be said for the timetable issue, WoW will eventually run out of steam ... they may as well topple themselves.
