Following rumors from Korean website ThisIsGame that Blizzard would be unveiling the long-awaited StarCraft II at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational on May 19, company representatives have confirmed that Blizzard plans to reveal a new game at the event and that the company plans to revisit the StarCraft universe someday--but stopped just short of saying if that to be announced game is StarCraft II.

"We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more," a Blizzard representative told Kotaku. "Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present."

If not StarCraft II, other possible announcements could involve the essentially confirmed Diablo III, another World of Warcraft expansion pack or Warcraft IV. Last August, Blizzard placed a job posting for a level designer "with experience building levels using any popular 3D Real-Time Strategy game toolset," suggesting the company has at least one real-time strategy game in development.

According to the rumors, Blizzard's announcement of StarCraft II will involve videos and images of the follow up, which will feature a new race and 3D graphics. The rumors also hint at several changes for existing races and indicate the development team will be present at the unveiling to field questions.

The third Blizzard Worldwide Invitational takes place in Seoul, South Korea on May 19 and 20. Set in Seoul's Olympic Gymnastics and Fencing Stadiums, event activities include the regional finals for the first season of World of Warcraft's Arena Tournament, Warcraft III Battle.net Season 5, and invitational tournaments for StarCraft and Warcraft III.
