Raven Working on the Next Wolfenstein

42

Well I figure it would be pretty apparent I had problems getting online at X05. Now that is mostly OK since there wasn't a whole lot in the keynote that was unexpected. One thing however, was the announcement that Raven is developing the new Wolfenstein game. Not a whole lot was mentioned, or shown even (although it was clear it was a continuation of the mad scientist type world of Return to Castle Wolfenstein), but the Xbox 360 is the primary development platform for the game and it's based on new technology; a sort of extension of the MegaTexture tech used by ET: Quake Wars. Basically, expect Wolfenstein to have one huge game world. No more loading individual levels.

    Why?

I mean, the game before barely had anything to do with Wolfenstein. And zombies? Ack.

All I care about is the mp for this. I didn't get into ET, but I was really into the wolf mp for a few months.

Didn't the original wolfensteing have zombie jews with miniguns sticking out of their stomachs. Or did I just dream that?

I believe it was the Eisenfaust mission in Wolfenstein 3D that had the zombies, and if the boss killed you in that level, your portrait was zombified.

Not to mention the game had Hitler-clone sorcerer-ghosts casting fireballs from their hands, various over the top MechaNazis, and BJ drinking from pools of blood on the ground for health.

The setting and subject matter of RTCW was very much Wolfenstein, regardless of what those who never played the original (the original FPS) may say.

Too bad it didn't have the Death-Cam and MechaHitler though :( ANY GAME WITH SUPERNATURAL/WACKY SCIENCE NAZIS MUST CLIMAX WITH MECHAHITLER.

Fuck. That should be obvious. Certainly it should not climax with 11 ft. tall Rob Zombie. That was rather disappointing. I liked the rest of the game though.

Looking forward to the sequel. On PC.

By "(the original fps)" i'm trying to separate Wolfenstein3d from the original 1981 AppleII Castle Wolfenstein (which I haven't played, but I believe it had a more realistic setting than zombies and mech-suits world of id's Wolfenstein games), and not restating the technological/historical significance of Wolf3d.

I remember there were Hitler-Ghosts, Hitler's Head in a Jar mounted on a robot, and other sci-fi elements in Wolfenstein 3d. RTCW seemed to follow the same 'lab experiment + ancient magic civilization' theme (although I thought that Enemy Territory had zero to do with Wolfenstein games other than the name + WW2 stuff.)

I agree. RTCW was shit. MOH:AA which came out at around the same time only emphasized what utter crap that game was. Raven makes boring, uninspired games.

      Feh.
