Here is my world currently:

How did this happen? (sand that isn't falling)

This was found naturally occuring, it is actually a second entrance to a cave I'm calling 'Deep Cave' in my world (there are mine cart tracks to the cave, but not that entrance, but you should be able to find it)
ok Redstone Wire Minecart Switches
I have a minecart track with three T junctions that are controlled by two switches by my mountain top house. In the map above, you can see it leaving my house and going toward the bottom of the map (technically, it is the direction the sun sets, so it would be west). The one switch controls the first junction. The second switch controls the other two junctions, one off of each branch of the first junction.
Switch room:

Left switch controls the near junction, the right switch controls the other two junctions, further away.
Overview of track:

Junctions 1 and 2 - 1 is controlled by the left switch in the switch room, the right switch controls Junctions 2 and 3

You can see the left wire comes up and over the track to connect to the back of the junction, while right wire goes under the track before splitting to the two junctions further down the track.
Junction 3

If you don't care about remote control, you can just place the switch at the back side of the junction (where the redstone wire connects to in the remote control version).
