  • Civ 4 Pitboss SHACKBATTLES!

The pace of Charlie has been pretty slow. Couple that with it being early in the game and not much going on and it might be easy to lose some of your enthusiasm. Don't! Shadow, you're *dangerously* close to getting booted for missing turns. Please note that you're expected to take all your turns--if something has come up where that's not possible, please find someone to take them for you or we will.

Bravo continues to move along steadily. Not much to report--my biggest achievement lately has been the proliferation of courthouses which has *greatly* reduced the burden of maintenance which was dragging my economy down.

    • The English Times - 540AD

Crowds gathered around the Imperial Palace today for the coronation of Despot Jikim. After Despot Jikim was coronated, the previous despot gave up his title and proclaimed himself Jikim the Old. After his coronation, Despot Jikim made this announcement to the English people:

Fellow citizens. You have gathered here today to celebrate my coronation. However, let us take a moment of silence as we honor my ancestors, honor the soldiers who died serving our nation, as well as honor our determination to continue to strive for greatness.

Our nation began as a tribe of barbarians, not knowing how the knowledge of building roads and herding animals would make us stronger. But Jikim the First, wise as he was, led that small barbarian tribe and it flourished under his guidance. With the First as its despot, the capital Clone Town was founded. Since then, our influence expanded under the idealist Jikim the Cultured, met new civilizations by the adventurous Jikim the Explorer, secured much needed resources by the guidance of Jikim the Strategist, saw the tragic downfall of our Egyptian friends under the leadership of Jikim the Cruel, and witnessed the treachery of our Incan neighbors as we were led by Jikim the Meek.

Today, as Jikim the Old passes on to me the title Despot Jikim, I pray that I may one day become as great as this glorious nation's founding fathers. I pray that I may one day become so awe inspiring that future generations also look upon me and strive for superiority. I pray that one day, the heathens also embrace the one true faith of the Tao and spread enlightenment to all. I pray that one day, our sons and daughters may not have to see or pick up a weapon to fight enemies of the English. That one day they may live in peace and not have to endure the pain and agony of seeing their own family and friends taken by the evils of war. That one day, the world as we know it is forgets the word "war." But that day is not today.

Today our soldiers are at the Incan's doorsteps. Everyday, new men enlist to fight the Incan horde. Everyday, mothers and daughters weep not knowing whether their men will return home. Yet we shall not stop. This is a war of vengeance and retribution. The villager's cry and lament as the Incans ravaged our country side will not be forgotten. The stories of how Jikim the Meek was stunned at the surprise raid on the English citizens will not be forgotten. For we are the English, and grudges run deep in our blood.

Long live England! Long live the Empire!

Despot Jikim was coronated on his 20th birthday. Though it is wild speculation at this moment, the staff at the English Times believe that history will forever remember Despot Jikim as Jikim the Bloodthirsty.
