The game throws you right into everything without probably the worst interactive tutorial ever. I didn't know what the hell I was doing at first besides aiming and shooting. Biotics are pretty much the equivalent to spells in fantasy games, right? There wasn't a clear indication of how biotics work, which ones do what, and how to use them at the start either.
So when I pick up a gun and don't convert it to health gel, does it stay in my inventory forever? I had about 10 or so guns before I decided to start over. And what is the deal with giving my character guns he isn't even trained to use? I started out as an engineer, and even though I don't have the skill to use shotguns I can still equip it anyway.
I'm going to give this another go and I guess read the text tutorials in the game, but honestly is there a better way to figure the game out? I'm all for deep, complex systems like in the old Might and Magics, Morrowind, Oblvion, and Civ 4 micro management - but I really prefer a good interactive tutorial to get me going in the right direction from the get-go.

biotics are like spells or force powers from KOTOR, but there's no mana. only cooldowns. same for most tech powers and such.
guns will stay with you until you sell or convert them to omnigel. omnigel is pretty worthless and differs from medigel, the healing stuff. you can equip guns not in your specialty but you'll suck aiming with them until you train them up. especially snipers. stick to your specialty if you can.
stick with it. some of the systems are a little wonky (wait til you drive the tank), but the game is truly amazing in terms of story.
