Will anything short of nuking / reinstall bring his OS back from the dead?

I'll run fixmbr without any parameters and it says that it's written a new master boot record on physical drive \Device\Harddisk0\Partition0
However, when I run "map" I get the following drives:
? FAT16 39MB \Device\Harddisk0\Partition1
C: NTFS (80Gigs) \Device\Hardisk0\Partition2
A: blah blah floppy...
D: blah blah cdrom...
should I be running "fixmbr \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2" ?
Or does that result in something unfortunate?
