  • [Darksiders] – Xbox 360 – [First Impressions] –early [review]

Time for judgment… will there be pure carnage, darkness, stories of the end, Demonic encounters of epic portions.. Thou shall judge thee, bow down as your faith is judged. I must admit I have been waiting for this game for a very long time and could hardly wait to play it so how does it bleed, small wounds or large lacerations?

We shall see in the end… read on

Right so its time to pass judgment and I will cut some of the shit right off the top, Darksiders must be played in the mentality that its like a good bottle of wine it truly gets epic as it ages. The more you play it the better it gets in terms of story, abilities, meaning, weapons, locations, platforming pretty much everything. One massive stand out is the presentation, detail, graphics engine and razor sharp gameplay and combat system.

If you come in and thinking you are gona crack open a bottle of hard liquor and get tweaked in a few minutes you will be disappointed. Do not stress I assure you after a few hours namely once you get access to a shop aka merchant that lets you purchase weapons, moves, abilities, etc does the game start literally growing on you like a second persona that is part of your soul.

There is just such a large scale epic feel to the environments the game almost feels like a open sand box game like a Demonic Infamous mixed in with some platforming and a little Wow instance runs. That may sound like a weird recipe but trust me it taste so good you will want to go for seconds.
I must mention thou the begging is little slow like I have mentioned you have to put in the time for everything to start churning but its well worth it. It’s a totally different pace than Bayonetta its very close to Infamous pace.

      Things I liked:

      - The graphics and detail as well as presentation is truly impressive I could only imagine how this would look on a high end PC
      - The music score is really good gives you a nice feeling of being a last hope for setting order in the world and matches the environment
      - Just rad character design along with the mobs and everything else fits really nicely, The main character you play may be my favorite character design he looks very cool
      - Shit load of upgrades, weapons, modification etc (you just have to play a while to get access to it, then you will truly go holly shit that’s cool)
      - Very interesting mix of sand boxish, carnage, and platforming fits really well I like it.
      - The pace is medium to slowish, it’s a very relaxing game for me personally after a long day of work, it will definitely calm you down and put you mind to rest (for me personally)
      - You get to go back to areas and use your new abilities etc to get stuff etc, this is great so that you don’t just fire and forget, I like going back as a pimped out
      - Combat is top notch and never gets old there is enough variety in mobs and the abilities you get that you will always want to rip something apart
      - I love the finishing moves so cool
      - Great collecting and currency system
      - Lots of adventuring and things to explore
      - The bosses are outstanding and very cool, most mobs are fun to kill.
      - There are spells very cool and you get allot of them
      - Weapons lvl up
      - You have health and mana, standard just mentioned it
      - 100% not a brainless hack and slash

      Things I didn’t like:

      - The beginning is way too thrown in the middle with no back ground making you just go WTF, who am I, where am, why am I hacking things, who are those mobs, which are good, which are bad, should I just kill everything, am I evil or good?
      - I really wish they add allot more to the story in the begging it would of made a massive difference. Had it had a prologue like Bayonetta this would of made the WTF factor go away in the very first minutes of the game
      - They could of added a bit more enemies in the areas or even recurring spawn points would be very fitting (note areas partial spawn back when you move from zones this is a massive plus since you do go back to parts)
      - Would of loved if they added a loot drop system would of made it just so much more awesome, would have been allot of work but made a big dif at the begging I just wanted them to through me anything but I got nothing for a while.
      - I would of liked if the sound track to be more dynamic, they have a great score they could of really elevated it, still this is nit picking its fine
      - Not on the pc

Be patient at the begging and you will get a payout which is well worth it. If you every wanted a platformer/adventure game that has a demonic setting along with more manageable precise combat then this is the game for you. If you don’t have a patience and want a payout with a few minutes be warned your gona get pissed, mind you there are enough cool things to keep you going you just will go when am I getting a new spell, a new weapon, is there armor etc? Of course all of this is a yes it just takes time.

So many questions at first but maybe this was done on purpose for in the story you have lost everything so I guess its fitting, for I did feel like “Who am I, where am I, what is my purpose, etc”. Overall I am enjoying the game very much and want to continue to build up my character into an ober killing machine of justice all the way until the end.

Verdict: Definitely recommend if you enjoy open sand box games, hack and slash, platforming, RPGs and want a smooth paced game that last a long time

At the least: Must rent, do not judge the game till you unlock the merchant

Last comment: Very epic environment, nice graphics, good sound score and tight combat system and plenty of character progression. Its up to you if you have the time to become a legend and enjoy the spoils of your time?

Later and enjoy if you get it
